House History - Kilmardinny House, Bearsden

One of the most enjoyable assignments of the Genealogical Studies Diploma at Strathclyde University was the house history etude. This involved looking at a local house, and writing up a full history of those people who lived and worked there.

As with all University assignments, word count can be an issue. 2000 word limit means you often have to leave the juicy bits you find out along the way. My chosen property, Kilmardinny House in Bearsden, had a succession of interesting owners, leading lights in Glasgow's business and commercial world. The servants were equally interesting, with a bigamous coachman being a particular highlight.

All of this history has been written up into a book, which is now available to order on Amazon as a short paperback, or in a Kindle-friendly version. I hope readers find it as interesting as I did!
